RESIDENTIAL PROJECT 4

This project was done while Crosstone Construction was working under Gifford Brothers Construction for a current commercial customer. Nestled in the New England woods, this project was created with a lot of glass, which was full of unique challenges due to the height of the walls. When creating a glass wall in a building with two stories or more, we must consider methods to insure structural compliance and meet reasonable energy consumption demands. We often solve the structural challenges by using a combination of steel, wood, and sometimes concrete in between windows, as we did in this project. Concerning energy consumption, we calculate the best low-energy glass and how quickly they will pay for themselves in saved heating and cooling costs. Today we have windows that have R-values between 9.1 and 11.1, which is over three times the value of many high-end common window manufacturers.
